As a child I have always found walk in closets very appealing. Watching movies and seeing clips of famous celebrities and personalities and their organized closets had me wishing I could have one too when I have my own home. Walk in closets, for me, are the perfect type of closet system since they allow different sections and compartments. There’s a separate cabinet or shelf for bags, shoes, accessories, belts, suits, dresses, pants and whatever else. Not only are the clothes and other accessories carefully and neatly sorted, it also allows you to display the pieces that you use most often.

Unfortunately, this is one of my childhood dreams that did not materialize. While I was able to buy a lovely condo with a great view of the city, there wasn’t any space for a walk in closet. However, I got the next best thing – a reach in closet – it’s another closet system wonder that efficiently utilizes space for storing clothes and other items. Instead of having a wall in between rooms, the hollowed out portions became two separate closet systems that look like plain walls of a bedroom. But when you slide the cabinet doors open, you’ll find that the entire stretch of the wall is all closet space – big enough for clothes and beddings to be kept neatly tucked away in.

Your bathroom reflects more of your personality than any other living space within the home. For this reason, it is important to let your own personal style and preference reflect in how you decorate it. Scouting for kitchen furniture used to take up so much time and effort. It required several hours of driving to reach the factory depot and several hours more to look at different styles, colors and price ranges of different kitchen items. I have always loved curtains. For me, they add an elegant touch to any room or space they are placed. I particularly like the lace patterns and floral prints specially for the bedrooms. A lot of hours has been spent in looking at home decorating magazines and looking at different kinds of curtain designs and patterns. Whenever I go out, I always see to it too that I pass by the fabric shop and look for interesting finds and discount fabrics.

Lately I noticed that my two year old daughter has taken an interest in curtains too. She would always play behind the curtains in the master’s bedroom and touch the fabric with her hands. Her room unfortunately, has been fitted with blinds upon her grandfather’s insistence. He thinks that the curtain fabrics might cause allergies to the baby so he opted for venetian blinds.

It took some convincing but finally my dad agreed to take down the blinds and install curtain rods in my little girl’s room. It was pure enjoyment watching her running around the fabric shop and touching the different rolls of cloth there. We picked several sets for her room: hello kitty prints, strawberry shortcake, and a lovely pink and purple Barbie pattern. She absolutely loved them as soon as they were hung in her room – even playing peekaboo with everyone who enters.

Bathroom space is a common problem for most households since this is one area of the house that always seems to lack storage space. If you’re planning to do a bit or remodeling and incorporate some bathroom space savers, I would suggest that you make use of the space directly above the toilet.

Some people prefer to use this space by adding a tall shelf with several layers. They then proceed to add their toiletries on the top shelves. This may work for some, but I personally find it difficult to use. For one, some of the smaller items are bound to slide off or fall down and theres always the danger of it falling inside the toilet bowl if the toilet seat is not kept down all the time.

Instead of adding a tall shelf I would rather add overhead towel racks, with maybe two layers. It should be high enough so that the towels can be placed there either folded (if they’re new or have just been washed) or hanging if they have just ben used. The bars would also be a good place to temporarily hang work out clothes which are soaked with sweat or swimsuits which are still dripping wet.

I’m not proud that I have no carpentry skills, but that’s just the way it is. Try as I might, I only end up making a mess whenever I try to make something that requires cutting, hammering, or sawing. I have decided years ago that this is something best left to the experts, or to the more adept members of the species. I know that there are plenty more people like me and I guess this is why ready made furniture is becoming more and more popular.
